San Francisco Beefs Up Their Offensive Line Overnight
The 49ers add protection with two big signings.
Much like the majority of America, I was out cold when the 49ers brought back Trent Williams and signed Alex Mack. San Francisco adds veteran leadership through Alex Mack and keeps a monster like Trent Williams around.
Williams was, in my opinion, the top free agent this season and seeing him sign back with the 49ers was great because he’s an awesome fit in the Bay Area. However, the 49ers gave him an absolutely blasphemous contract of 6 years, 138.06 million dollars.
By the time Trent Williams contract is up, he’ll be 39 years old. Not to many linemen play past the age of 35 efficiently so this is a pretty absurd signing. Williams is a good player but, is he really worth this type of deal? The answer is no.
As for Mack, the 49ers make a great signing here. Mack is in the twilight years of his career and just inked a 1 year, 5.5 million dollar deal. He adds great leadership to the 49ers oline, extremely underrated signing.
The 49ers are making protection a priority for Jimmy G and I think that they could look for a receiver like Jaylen Waddle at number 12 now.
