Stanfords 165, Shane Griffith has advanced to the semifinals and is continuing his Cinderella run. He is set to wrestle against Zach Hartman out of Bucknell.
Griffith won a narrow bout against the #1 seed from Iowa, Alex Marinelli 3-2. Marnielli was the tournament favorite because of his technical and strong style of wrestling. I am a fan of Marinelli but, seeing Griffith gut this win out was awesome.
Now, Griffith will take on a strong competitor in Zach Hartman, who is the #5 seed. He won off of a medical forfeit against the #4 seed Mekhi Lewis from Virginia Tech who came into the tournament pretty banged up.
I have my fingers crossed and have said a prayer that Griffith can make the finals to shove it in the face of the Stanford athletic department. How can you cut a program that had a National Champion? You just can’t.
