Specs Sunday; The My Parents Office Podcast Theme Song
JR has cemented himself as an all time guest because of this.
We are back again for another Specs Sunday. This time we’re taking a bit of a different approach as I’ll be analyzing the theme song for my podcast, My Parents Office that was made by JR Specs.
Back in late May of 2021, I reached out to JR on Instagram about writing and recording the theme song for My Parents Office because before that, Brett was just putting a Spose or JR Specs song as the fifteen second introduction which worked. But I felt that we needed something consistent and something that fit the show.
When I reached out too JR about doing the theme song, he got right back to me and noted that he was in the midst of a features run. He asked what lyrics I wanted in it, I just told him to put my name, Bretts name, and the shows name in it and handle it himself. I trusted his song writing because I’m a fan of his music.
My biggest note to Specs was that I just wanted it to have an upbeat jazzy feel like Baby Knock Me Down does. The rest was in the hands of Specs.
Now when he said that he was in the middle of features and asked for a timeline on when I needed the song by, I wasn’t sure if we’d have it for the month of June, but I was completely wrong.
About a week later I got a message back from him with a link to a rough draft of the theme song. It was fire. It starts off with drums that mimic the ones in Baby Knock Me Down which is the fantastic touch that I wanted.
He kicks the intro off with “Can I get it started, you are now tuned in to My Parents Office, Here with Brett Castle and Andrew Diaz”. Check, check, check, and check. JR Specs hit the four things that I asked for and overachieved. He got my name, Bretts name, the shows name, and the Baby Knock Me Down style all in a thirty second introduction.
Specs follows it up with “New new dropping, you know where I be at”. Well, I hope that you’re tuning into the show in your car, on a run, or around the house.
Jr gives a plug in the song, one that is very true. “JR on the mic and I’m next to blow”. JR is going to blow up soon, and I’m glad I’ve been a fan since the beginning of his career. He kills any project he takes on and gives everything he does his own twist.
He ends the opener with “So let me get gone, Welcome to MPO” and the beat fades out and my voice takes over. It’s the perfect ending and give the listeners a great introduction to me ranting and raving about Entourage, my shitty gambling picks, and an interview.
Theres no other artist that I’d want to do my intro than JR. Well, expect for maybe like Michael Jackson which I’d find more fascinating because he’d have to come back to life to do it. That would be wild. But JR killed this intro and I really couldn’t be happier with how it came out.
