Spose Saturday; Happy Birthday to Why Am I So Happy?
Why Am I So Happy? turns six years old today.
Today for this Spose Saturday, we get a tremendous coincidence as today is July 10th, which marks the sixth anniversary of when Sposes album, Why Am I So Happy? hit our ears.
The fifteen song album is packed with a plethora of awesome features from many familiar faces in Sposes world. Watsky, Dave Gutter, Kristina Kentigian, Shane Reis, Wax, Renee Coolbrith, Lyle & Phil Divinsky, and KGFREEZE make this album great in my opinion. What they add to the King of Maines music pushes this album from good to great.
Why Am I So Happy? has a fairly upbeat feel and inspiring songs. Nobody featuring Watsky is a song I covered a few weeks back. I wrote about the meaning of the song and how the duo of Spose and Watsky rap about starting as a Nobody and preserving to become someone you can be proud of.
My personal favorite off the album, one that will make me dance in the car is Kanye Go featuring Dave Gutter. Spose raps with confidence that his music will get big time rappers like Rick Ross, Kanye West, and Jay-Z going and make them fans of him.
The first two I ever listened to off the album are Lies Song and Greatest Shit Ever, the four and five song punch. The whole concept of Lies Song is that every verse that is spit is a complete fib. I mean, when Spose says “Betty White is not old, Ice is not cold”, he is CLEARLY spreading falsehoods.
For Greatest Shit Ever, the vibe is immaculate. Whenever you’re having a good day, you need to throw it on because it talks about all the small things that can turn a day around. Getting paid, having some beers in the fridge, and Rihanna wanting to have sex with you would definitely cause for you to say you had a good day.
Out of all of L.L. Banes albums, Why Am I So Happy? is probably my third or fourth favorite one but it’s in great company. I’d have to say We All Got Lost and Peter Sparker are my top two and won’t be moved. Great album, tremendous anniversary.
This week I intended to do Devils Game off of Nonperishable but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. So, for next week, we’ll highlight Devils Game.
