Tennessee Gives Harold Landry BIG Money To Stay In Nashville Longterm
The Titans are bringing back their top pass rusher from 2021.
Yesterday in the midst of a quarterback crazy frenzy where Aaron Rodgers announced he was staying Green Bay and Russell Wilson got dealt to Denver for a massive haul, the Tennessee Titans resigned Pro Bowl outside linebacker Harold Landry to a 5 year, 87.5 million dollar contract. This deal includes 52.5 million dollars guaranteed to the Boston College alum.
In 2021, Landry recorded 13.5 sacks, 1.5 of them coming in the Titans playoff loss to the Bengals, 80 tackles, and a forced fumble. Landry avoided the franchise tag where if he was tagged as a linebacker, would have made 14.7 million dollars next year. If he was tagged as a defensive end he would have received 16.1 million dollars in 2022.
It’s definitely a good thing that general manager Jon Robinson kept Landry around on a new, long term deal because Titans fans would have probably revolted had they not held onto him.
The Titans have multiple defensive starters set to hit the free agent market in linebackers Jayon Brown and Derick Roberson, so keeping Landry was extremely important. When it comes to the Tennessee defense, Landry is arguably the second most important player behind two time All Pro safety Kevin Byard. Both guys are the key if Tennessee wants to compete in a quarterback heavy AFC.
