Day three saw an awesome song to kick your day off in the summer, and now for day four we’ll be going with an awesome song to play in the car with your windows down and scream along to.
I’d say many people believe that country music and or hip hop are the ideal genres to listen to in the summer, and for the longest time I believed that that was the proper thought process. But that’s wrong. Personally, I believe that alternative rock is the ideal summer genre because it has a rebellious, yet non-malicious meaning which is how you should be spending the summer with your friends.
Throughout this countdown of great summer songs, you’ll see a lot of alternative rock and the first one from the genre is Kilby Girl by The Backseat Lovers. I actually just got turned onto this song by Hugh Wells, so this is somewhat a different perspective because the few songs I covered prior were ones I’ve gone through a few summers with. I’ll be listening to Kilby Girl A LOT this summer.
The chorus of the song is an absolute banger that has unreal potential to be screamed out the windows of your car. “I overheard that she was nineteen, She's got a fake ID and a nose ring, Those kind of girls tend to know things, Better than I do, And I'm dying, To figure out what she's hiding, She's playing it cool but she's lying, Better than I do”.
Much like how when Brett and I talk about a TV show on the podcast it all comes back to Entourage, alternative rock and summer songs come back to Hugh Wells. Hughy just copped a Jeep after being in the Pacific all winter and all he’s been talking about is ripping it around and playing good music when the weather gets nice. And with him showing me this banger, I know he’ll have it on rotation.
Kilby Girl is an absolute banger that FEELS like it’ll plays mostly everywhere, but I’ve got a feeling that in the car with the windows down ripping to the beach is prime time for The Backseat Lovers.
