The Mass Maritime lacrosse team is ROLLING right now. In the month of April, the Buccaneers are 4-2 and are outscoring opponents 111-57 to move to 4-3 in the conference. With one game remaining, Coach Bagby and the Buccaneers have secured the four seed for the Little East playoffs.
Last night for the squads senior night, Mass Maritime beat Salem State 25-13. This win was a good send off for the ten seniors on the roster; Viktor Wright, Peter Raei, Chris Knee, Patrick Lawson, Spencer Jones, Dale Donovan, Owen Donahue, Chris Donaghey, Connor Donaghey, and Dominic Derderian.
A big note from the contest is that junior attack man Mitchell Maida recorded his 100th point in blue and white. The 4 points he tallied against the Vikings, 1 goal and 3 assists, pushed him to that 100th point.
The leading goal scorers for the Bucs were both senior Spencer Jones and sophomore Gage Coolahan with 4 a piece. Jones finished the game with 4 points and Coolahan with 7.
Other goal scorers for the Buccaneers were Dale Donovan and Braeden Kosiewicz with 3, Peter Raei, Brian Rosher, Patrick Lawson, and Ryan Cameron with 2, and Nick Lamattina and Owen Donahue with 1 each.
One of the biggest contributions in last nights win came from the face off man Brian Rosher. Along with the 2 goals he netted on 5 shots, he picked up 20 ground balls and won 25 out of the 27 face offs he was in. Mass Maritime dominated the face off battle winning 36 out of 40.
Senior goalie Viktor Wright got the nod on Senior Night over freshman standout Sean Lally; and he performed very well in his fourth start of the season. He saw 21 shots on net and recorded 8 saves while allowing 13 goals.
An all around team win for the Buccaneers as they have just one game remaining in the regular season this Saturday at Castleton.
