The Chiefs Tackle Tandem Is Gone
Kansas City released Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz.
Chiefs nation, say farewell to your left tackle that was the 2013 first overall pick and your four time All Pro right tackle. Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz found their heads in the guillotine this morning and will now hit the free agency market.
Both Fisher and Schwartz were banged up last season. Fisher was actually having his best season of his career before he tore is achilleas a game before the Super Bowl. In week six, Schwartz injured his back and was never able to get back on the field. He ended up getting back surgery to fix his injury.
If both of these guys are healthy, a team could land one of them for cheap due to their age and injury history. Schwartz is a four time All Pro that when he is playing his best, is in contention to be the leagues best right tackle.
As for Fisher, he never really lived up to the hype of being the number one pick. I do attribute a portion of Fishers poor play to him being moved from his usual left tackle position to right tackle for the first few seasons of his career.
I hope that these two guys land on teams where they can make an immediate impact. As long as they have the ability to stay healthy, the skies the limit.
