The Coup Dètat In Atlanta
Hawks head coach, Lloyd Pierce was fired half way through this season due to unrest amongst players.
Well, the Lloyd Pierce era in Atlanta has come to a very abrupt ending. Pierce was shown the door today due to his lack luster coaching with an extremely young and talented roster. While injuries have been a plague this season for the Hawks, Pierce has had very little success in the ATL in his two and a half seasons.
Pierce, who has been a long time NBA assistant since 2007, was hired by the Hawks in 2018 and posted a dismal record of 63-110. I have a feeling Pierce will find a job as a head coach in the league soon because the NBA recycles head coaches year after year so, if I was Pierce, I wouldn’t be super worried.
Prior to the termination of Pierce, many Hawks players, quietly, voiced their opinions on how they wanted to hear a new voice in the locker room and were eager to play for someone else. While we do not know who that “new voice” will be, we do know there will be a change in the Atlanta lockeroom.
Atlanta has a super talented roster with Trae Young at point, John Collins and De’Andre Hunter at forward, Bruno Fernando and Clint Capela at center so, with a good head coach, the Hawks could find themselves in the 8 seed this season and could compete for the 6 seed next season.
