The Slippery Slope of the WWE Hall Of Fame
People are petitioning to remove President Donald J. Trump from the WWE Hall of Fame and this is not okay.
If the WWE Hall of Fame begins to remove members because, of morale discrepancies then there will be a short list of Hall of Famers remaining and I don’t think that President Trump should be the first member people are targeting to remove.
Now I hate to try to cancel individuals or have their accolades diminished because of previous actions but, when you try to remove an individual like President Trump from the Hall of Fame for essentially people not “liking him” as a president, we need to take a look at other members that have been inducted because, oh boy, a lot of these athletes are far from saints.
I want to preface this by saying that I do not want people to go after or petition to remove every member of every hall of fame because of incidents in their past. I just believe there is a hideous double standard of people trying to pick and choose who is canceled and who isn’t.
Why don’t we take a look at Jimmy Snuka who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996. While Snuka was a phenomenal wrestler in his prime, he is also a murderer. In 1983, he killed his girlfriend Nancy Argentino and was charged with third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in 2015 but, Snuka was unfit to stand trial 32 years after the incident.
How about another celebrity who was inducted, Snoop Dogg. The rapper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016 by John Cena. If you want to take a look at some skeletons in Snoop’s closet we can take a walk back to 1993 when he was charged with first degree murder after a member of a rival gang was shot and killed by Snoops bodyguard, Malik, who was in Snoop’s vehicle with Snoop present.
I mean Mike Tyson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a celebrity in 2012. Tyson was charged and put in prison for the rape of 18 year old, Desiree Washington in 1991. He ended up serving 3 years of his 6 year sentence in the Indiana Youth Center. Tyson, would also regularly beat up his ex-wife Rob Givens.
Would you like to look at other Hall of Fames as well? O.J Simpson was inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1985 and I think we all know his long story. Dennis Rodman has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
I could go on and on listing individuals that have poor past’s. If you look at every professional sports Hall of Fame you’ll find a plethora of athletes that if the qualifications to be inducted were off of character and a clean rap sheet, would have no business being immortalized.
I just ask for consistency, and if the people that want Donald Trump out of the WWE Hall of Fame aren’t going through the same process for people charged with rape and murder then the disgusting double standard I had mentioned is on full display.
