The Transfer Portal Strikes Twice Today
Quarterback Dylan McCaffrey and tight end Arik Gilbert have both found new homes on opposite sides of the nation.
Two big time players have found new homes today through the transfer portal at very different universities. Former 5 star recruit and LSU tight end, Arik Gilbert, found a new home in the south. He will be taking his talents to Gainesville, Florida to become a Gator. For Dylan McCaffrey, he’ll be slinging the rock at Northern Colorado University for his dad, Ed McCaffrey who is the Bears head coach.
I followed Gilberts recruitment pretty closely because, he was such an elite and dominant high school athlete that would embarrass 5’8 defensive backs every Friday night. He took six visits in the recruiting process to LSU, where he eventually committed, Alabama, Penn State, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.
Gilbert committing to LSU was not a huge surprise but, him transferring 8 hours east to Gainesville is a huge shock. When I found out his name was in the transfer portal, I thought that he would goto either Alabama or Texas A&M, Florida never crossed my mind but, Dan Mullen worked his magic to make him a Gator.
For McCaffrey, it may seem like a step down for him to go from wearing the blue and maze to throwing the pigskin in Greeley, Colorado but, it honestly isn’t. He wasn’t going to be the starter in Ann Arbor so, for him to have the chance to play under his dad is huge for him.
With that being said, Dylans brother, Luke has entered the transfer portal and is trying to find a new home. Maybe, Ed has picked his favorite son because, Luke is also a quarterback and bringing in two QB’s with a similar play style will not bowed well for Northern Colorado.
This is only the start of big names finding new homes because, Miami athlete Tate Martell, West Virginia quarterback Austin Kendall, and Penn State quarterback Will Levis are still looking for schools to ball out at next season.
