Just a year ago today, Maine Gretzky, Spose released the Marcy Projects and the Infinite Sadness. It was a fourteen song project that combined songs from the Smashing Pumpkins band and rapper Jay-Z. Spose said in an Instagram post that it was “my love letter to two of my favorite things on Earth.”
Some how, Spose made the two different styles of music work together. My favorite one off of the project is when he combined Threat from the Black Album and Mayonnaise from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
The project received national attention from various blogs about music and the Smashing Pumpkins. The art work was done by another Maine native, Steve Gendron. It shows Jay-Z driving in the famous star from the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album which is out of this world.
Many of you may have heard Collision Course, the Jay-Z and Linkin Park mashup album but Marcy Projects and the Infinite Sadness absolutely blows that album out of the water.
This wasn’t the first time that Spose ever used other artists work. Back in 2014, Spose released an album that’s only available on SoundCloud called Dankonia, taking the name from the Outkast album, Stankonia.
Spose rapped over Outkast beats and told stories of his life in Maine and different observations in which he had of his community. It’s amazing.
Spose is wildly creative and is more than just a rapper. The way he can create something without even using his voice is tremendous. Happy first birthday to the Marcy Projects and the Infinite Sadness.
