Oh boy, we are creeping up very close to draft day so why not celebrate by remembering my absolute favorite moment from last seasons draft.
The 2020 draft class was great. You saw a trio of quarterbacks that could take their franchises to the next level in Herbert, Tua, and Burrow. Many defensive studs like Chase Young, Kenneth Murray, and Jeremy Chinn were taken and a slew of pass blockers highlighted the draft.
But, one moment really made me smile with glee. My Vikings took the real Offensive Rookie of the Year, Justin Jefferson with the 22nd overall pick but, it almost didn’t happen.
The Philadelphia Eagles held the 21st pick and were in desperate need of a pass catcher to help out their former starter, Carson Wentz. Prior to Philadelphias pick, the Raiders, Broncos, and Cowboys took receivers off the board.
As the clock ticked down, Howie Roseman submitted his pick and Roger Goodell announced the Eagles selection of TCU wideout Jalen Reagor.
Prior to the pick, the Vikings front office pondered if they would take a corner or receiver. Once the Eagles pick went through, Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer cackled knowing that they would select Justin “Jets” Jefferson.
Below is the video of it all unfolding.
If you want to compare the stats between the two, Jefferson reeled in 88 catches for 1,400 yards and 7 touchdowns while Reagor caught 31 balls going for 396 yards and 1 touchdown.
This isn’t the first time that the Eagles have absolutely bungled drafting a receiver. The year prior they selected JJ Arcega-Whiteside two picks before Parris Campbell, five before Andy Isabella, and seven before D.K. Metcalf. All three who have performed better than Arcega-Whiteside.
Now I love watching the demise and flop of the Eagles front office but it’s been getting so crazy that Howie Roseman hasn’t been fired yet.
