Watt Signs With The Cardinals
In an odd turn of events, J.J. Watt signs with the Arizona Cardinals.
It’s a weird world we live in. Yesterday, three time Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. Watt signed a 2 year, 31 million dollar deal with the Arizona Cardinals. This comes as a shock to every NFL fan because Watt listed his favorites to sign with as the Titans, Packers, and Bills and also rejected an offer from the Colts for more money.
Another odd aspect of this signing is that Watt claimed he wanted to sign with a contender. The Cardinals haven’t made the playoffs since 2015 and play in a difficult division with the Rams, 49ers, and Seahawks. Watt does bring a boatload of experience and phenomenal work ethic to the Cardinals who now, may have the best pass rushing duo in the league with Watt and Chandler Jones.
I am super curious on how this move plays out for the Cardinals because they put a lot of money into this deal for a guy who has been very injury prone. Arizona also loses cap space that they should have used towards offensive line help for Kyler Murray or help in their defensive backfield.
This addition is going to be extremely hit or miss because if Watt gets back to his Defensive Player of the Year form, Arizona wins this signing by a mile but, if he re-injures his elbow, leg, or pec, then they are going to be shit out of luck.
