What Are You Doing Now JR?
Friend of the podcast and rapper JR Specs has a new project in the works.
With what JR Specs has been doing lately, he needs to change his producer tag from “How do you do it JR?” to “What are you doing JR?” The Uconn senior and Hampden, Maine native is starting to heat up this year and with a new project dropping on 4/28, it doesn’t appear that he is going to stop.
Much like his last campaign, he has created a very impressive yet cryptic marketing scheme with his new song. In his last release, GETCHA GEEKED, which dropped on 2/24, he used apricots and the color orange as his focal point.
He said in an interview on the My Parents Office Podcast, that his main reason for using apricots was because of snippets he added to the middle of GETCHA GEEKED. They come from videos of him and his high school friends goofing around and fit into the song.
Now with his new song “Red Solo Funk”, he is using a red solo cup as the main marketing piece. Hopefully this can be added to my summer rotation of songs like “Red Solo Cup” by Toby Keith and “Red Cup” by Cash Cash.
The first video he posted begins with a fully racked game of beer pong and the front cup reads “Red Solo Funk”. A muffled beat begins to play and when a ping pong ball splashes into the cup of beer (maybe Busch Light or Natty), the beat faintly drops, and a person grabs the cup removing it from formation.
Around the same time, JR changed his Instagram profile picture from his face with the color orange surrounding it to his face with a red circle behind him.
In a post from yesterday, the same cup appears and someone spins it perfectly to where it lands with the writing facing the camera. JR adds more lore to the caption when he wrote “HEY, I got something 4 u next week feat. a good friend, comment who you think it is”.
JR has me on the edge of my seat. If you have read past blogs and looked at other interviews I have done, many of my favorites are with musicians from Maine. The music scene in Maine fascinates me and I’m hoping that JR is working with someone from the Vacationland.
Next Wednesday cannot come soon enough and I am beyond fired up to get another JR Specs jam to bump in the Kia this summer.
