What Is The Greatest Little Debbie Snack Of All Time?
A question as old as time, what snack from Little Debbie is the greatest.
Growing up, whenever I would pass by the Little Debbie section of the grocery store with my mom, my eyes would grow fixated on Honey Buns, Cupcakes, and Nutty Bars. But, when the rubber hit the road, I was walking out of the supermarket without any Oatmeal Creme Pies.
Where I did get my Little Debbie snack fix as a kid was at my great grandmothers apartment. Her weekly grocery run consisted of cold cuts, cheese, milk, and three boxes of Little Debbie snacks. And she always rotated them so I was able to try every kind that there was.
In my eyes, Little Debbie products are like the Buccaneers receiving core; tremendously deep. You’ve got your chocolate based treats like Cupcakes, Swiss Rolls, Marshmallow Patties, and Cosmic Brownies. Then there is the Frosted Donuts and your cake products like Birthday and Zebra Cakes. Then you throw in the wildcards like Honey Buns, Nutty Bars, and Oatmeal Creme Pies. The choices are endless.
Now the question of “What is the best Little Debbie snack is the best?” is subjective. There really isn’t a right or wrong answer. But here is what I think is the best Little Debbie snack.
First off, I want to knock the three products off the list. I don’t personally like Zebra Cakes, Birthday Cakes, or Christmas Tree Cakes. The frosting is overly sweet and the cakes just not as high quality as some of the other treats in Little Debbies repertoire.
Next, say goodbye to any of the donuts. This knocks off the frosted, powdered, and chocolate frosted donuts from Little Debbie. Look, these aren’t getting nixed because they’re not good, I just personally don’t think that they’re the best snack donuts out there. If I’m looking for mini donuts, I’m walking past the Little Debbies section of the aisle and grabbing Entenmanns Pop ‘Ems. They’re GAS and were a staple sleepover snack of high school sleepovers.
With the cake and donut snacks off the board, I’ll be eliminating Swiss Rolls. I’m really not a huge fan of the cream filling. I think that the cake they use is better than the one used in the Zebra Cakes and other cake products, but the filling brings it down a tier. I’m also taking the Chocolate Marshmallow Pies off the board. This ones not that I don’t like it, it’s just that I never really had them before.
Seeing that I took Swiss Rolls off the board, I’m also going to be eliminating Cupcakes because they’re essentially the same product just in a different form.
And we are left with our top five; Cosmic Brownies, Iced Honey Buns, Honey Buns, Nutty Bars, and Oatmeal Creme Pies.
This is a tough decision, but it has to be done. Coming of the board next is both Honey Bun variations. Look, they’re good, but just tremendously sweet, like going to give you a cavity sweet and that’s part of the reason I eliminated the cake products.
Next, I’ll be getting rid of Oatmeal Creme Pies. This was a hard pick because Oatmeal Creme Pies are the most versatile of all the Little Debbie snacks because they can be eaten as a snack, as dessert, or even as breakfast.
Even Coach Saban agrees. He eats two Oatmeal Creme Pies and a cup of coffee for breakfast everyday like clockwork.
With the top two set, I can’t eliminate Cosmic Brownies or Nutty Bars because they’re both just so great. We have a tie at the top. Cosmic Brownies are perfect because the frosting isn’t too sweet and the brownie is super moist. To top it all of, the colorful chocolate pieces add great depth to the snack. Then with Nutty Bars, they’re essentially just wafers, which on their own aren’t great, but when you coat them in chocolate and add peanut butter between each wafer, it’s magical.
