Who Really Won the Titans-Rams Trade in 2016?
Taking a look back on the trade that landed Jared Goff in Los Angeles.
With Jared Goff’s departure from L.A, it only feels fitting to go back and look at the trade that landed him in Tinseltown.
The Titans held the number one pick in the 2016 draft and made a deal with the Rams where Tennessee receives the Rams first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017), in exchange for the first-overall pick (2016), a fourth-round pick (2016) and a sixth-round pick (2016) from the Titans.
While Goff was a huge piece of the Rams going to the Super Bowl in the 2018-19 season, the Titans are the big winners of this trade. Goff is no longer a Ram and thats the same for Pharoh Cooper, Temmarick Hemingway, and Mike Thomas who were selected with the picks from the Titans.
Tennessees selections definitely worked out big time especially when they grabbed Derrick Henry with the 45th pick in 2016. He has turned into the best power back in the whole league and may win offensive player of the year this season and has been the rushing champ back to back seasons. Not including Henry, the other selections worked out a lot better than the Rams.
The Titans received the 8th pick in the 2016 draft from L.A which turned into offensive tackle, Jack Conklin. Conklin is no longer a Titan but, he was one hell of a player in Nashville, paving the way for Henry’s first rushing title.
In 2017, they took the number 5 overall pick from the Rams and turned it into Western Michigan wide receiver, Corey Davis who has become a solid number two option and a great deep threat for the Titans. Jonnu Smith has been an up and coming tight end in the league and the Titans front office turned the last pick from the Jared Goff trade into an awesome weapon for Ryan Tannehill.
If you’re a Rams fan, you have to seriously hate your front office because, the only first round pick still on the roster since 2013 is Aaron Donald. While he is still the best player in football, they may want to start drafting in the first round again when that time comes in 2024, it has worked out for a lot of other teams.
