Yesterday I made a grand proclamation that I’d be starting a 30 day movie challenge and todays is day numero uno1. The first category on the docket is “a film that reminds you of your childhood.” In yesterdays blog, I added a poll for you the reader to vote and the majority picked the correct film which was, drum roll please — dah, dah, dah, dah, dah — Monsters Inc.
I think that every person, no matter how invested you are in film, have a movie from their childhood that has stuck with them through their adolescence and made an impact on them as an adult. I definitely have a few, but the one that I always remember watching was Monsters Inc. It came out the year I was born so it stayed pertinent when I was four and five years old and was one I’ve re-visited over the years, especially when Monsters University came out2.
I’m not entirely sure what made me gravitate to Monsters Inc. more than any other animated film I saw as a child, but it’s one that has stuck in my craw for my whole life. Maybe it’s the stuck-at-the-hip relationship between Mike and Sully, or the way the two of them care for Boo? I do know I loved Randall. He was the first villain in film history I really enjoyed and didn’t fully look down on.
Tomorrow for day two of the 30 Day Movie Challenge, the category is the movie with the greatest opening scene. Vote below on which film you think I’ll be picking.
Number one.
I needed to freshen up on Monsters Inc. to prepare for my first viewing of Monsters University.
