Yesterday for day twelve, the topic was Movie That Changed Me The Most, and I picked the 2012 coming-of-age drama, Perks of Being A Wallflower as it changed my perspective on mental health and the different ways people cope with trauma.
Today for day thirteen, the category is Best Book-to-Movie Adaptation. This required a little bit of research along with a lot of deliberation, but I was able to narrow it down to three films — The Shining, Oldboy, and Fight Club. Oldboy was my initial pick, but then I thought about how I felt after I watched Fight Club for the first time. I was utterly blown away and further made me love David Fincher as a director.
Fight Club was adapted from the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahniuk with the same name. It focuses on the theme of toxic masculinity and uses this club where men fight each other as the vessel to convey this message. While that undertone is what the film is about, you can’t deny that the most entertaining part of the film is Brad Pitt and Ed Norton playing off one another. That and seeing Jared Leto get mangled is what makes Fight Club my favorite book-to-movie adaptation.
Tomorrow for day fourteen, the category is A Movie That You Love That Everyone Hates. Vote below for what you think I’ll pick.
