Yesterday for day seven of the 30 Day Movie Challenge, I went over the category of Movie I Can Quote Every Line From. That was the 2008 Adam McKay comedy, Step Brothers. Today for day eight, I’ll be going over the category of Movie With The Best Acting Performance. This was an extremely difficult category to comb over because there are so many performances I truly love and I eventually whittled it down to four — Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler, Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood, and Amy Adams in Arrival. After some true reflection, I knew the right answer was Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood.
Anytime Daniel Day Lewis appears on screen in any film, he is absolutely dynamite because he goes all in. It’s all he cares about and I respect how deeply devoted he is to his craft. His role as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood is arguably the best of the 21st century. It’s remarkably intense and builds an aura of intimidation in the viewer where you think that you want nothing to do with that man.
Daniel Day Lewis delivers some of the most powerful lines filled with gravitas that you’re taken aback. “Drainage! Drainage, Eli, you boy. Drained dry. I'm so sorry. Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? Watch it. Now, my straw reaches acroooooooss the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I... drink... your... milkshake!” Just perfection.
Tomorrow for day nine, the category is Favorite British Movie. Vote below for what you think I’ll pick.
